Prof. Rick Schuurman is Professor of Neurosurgery at the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, Netherlands, specialising in deep brain stimulation for patients with Parkinson’s and obsessive compulsive disorder. Prof. Dr. Gislin Dagnelie is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and associate director of the Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center, a division of the Wilmer Eye Institute. He has been the Principal Investigator for clinical trials of the Second Sight Argus™ 2 retinal implant (2007-present). Jens Naumann is the former employee and the first blind patient to be implanted in the Dobelle Institute’s 2002-2004 Artificial Vision programme, and the author of Search of Paradise, a rich autobiographical account of the experience.
